Winter Weather in the US

Every now and then something happens that reminds me just how big the USA really is . . . recently the news has been full of reports of cold weather in New England but down south it's sunny and warm As we begin our holiday season lots of us get on the phone to friends and family members across the country. Just this morning I spoke to a friend in Florida who swears that it is a super time to visit the Sunshine State.

The average high temperature during November in Orlando is 26 degrees Centigrade; in December it's still a nice warm 23 degrees. So it's a great time to escape the winter weather and come on across the pond. If you are headed for Orlando you can rent a spectacular fully equipped three-bedroom vacation villa with your very own private pool for less than five hundred USA for an entire week. American Homes have a range of specials starting now and running through 2003 that will give you the luxury holiday of a lifetime.

If you book now for travel up to December 17th you can stay in a beautiful four bedroom Disney area home for only 585 US dollars per week, a five bedroom home is only an additional ten dollars. These are lovely homes with fully fitted kitchens, all modern conveniences, and cable television. They're conveniently located near Disney, golf courses, and everything else you want to do.

If you aren't ready to travel just this minute, keep them in mind for future trips particularly because they offer super savings on bookings from January fifth through March 31rst when you can choose a three or four bedroom home for $594. And, if you are really into forward planning, book before December 31,2002 for a stay during September, October, or November of 2003 and secure a three bedroom home for only $495 plus a complementary welcome pack of tea, coffee, bread, milk, sugar, bacon, eggs, cereal, milk. breakfast juice and soft drinks. You can contact them by telephone toll-free in the USA and Canada at 1 866-420-4072. From the UK simply call: 001-863-420-4072. From elsewhere visit them on the web at

Cypress Gardens in Florida

Whenever you plan to visit Florida don't forget to put Cypress Gardens on your itinerary! It's only 22 miles south of Orlando. It is located off U.S. Hwy. 27 just 22 miles south of I-4 between Orlando and Tampa on the shores of Lake Eloise and Lake Summit near Winter Haven. In addition to the obvious delights of a visit to this exquisitely landscaped tropical theme park, some special holiday treats await Christmas season travelers.

One of the many holiday offerings is a scumputious Holiday Buffet at Cypress Isles Pavilion. Music, dancing, and a variety of holiday entertainment will accompany meals of all-you-can-eat carved roast beef, roasted breast of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, sage and onion dressing, waldorf salad, steamed vegetables, mixed salad with assorted dressings, rolls and butter, coffee and iced tea, and a special selection of holiday pies.

The Holiday Buffet is only offered from November 23 through December 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Adult tickets are $16.95, youths (from age 10 to 17) $11.95, and child (3-9) $8.95. It's a feast your family will long remember.

The Gift of Travel

As the Holidays draw closer why not give your family the gift of travel? Even if you can't take a trip during the Christmas season you can always plan a family getaway for later in the year and gift wrap a package with the itinerary and some of the great Florida Coupons from our website.

As you make your plans you may want to schedule some out-of-this-world fun --- if you check John F. Kennedy Space Center - Space Shuttle Launch Schedule you can plan to come see us when you can have the thrill of watching a rocket soar into space. Currently the Space Center is not issuing passes to watch the shuttle take off from inside the complex --- but the surrounding area has several good viewing sites. Check the web page often for up-dates as passes may be offered again. You can still tour the center and see all the educational displays.

Christmas in New York

Start the season with Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the famous festive event runs from CPW & 77th to Broadway/Herald Square starting at 9:00 AM.

This year the tree at Rockefeller Center will be lit on December 4th and as always stay lit until New Year's Day.

December will also see a host of new shows on Broadway. Starting December 4th fans will have the opportunity to see Paul Newman in his first Broadway appearance since 1964 when a revival of "Our Town" opens. "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder is an American classic and more than any other piece of contemporary drama provides insight into small town American life.

A revival of Man of La Mancha opens on the fifth of December. And a revival of the essentially New York period piece Dinner At Eight opens on the 19th.

These shows will sell out rapidly in the early days so use the link above to book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

Christmas in Texas

In Austin, Texas the Zilker Park Trail of Lights starts the second Sunday of December and runs until December 23rd. The Zilker tree lighting ceremony is the first Sunday in December. Visitors to Trail of Lights may either park in Zilker Park for $5 or ride the shuttle from the State lots at 17th and San Jacinto. The Trail of Lights features almost forty massive displays of lights. It is a pedestrian event. Visitors unable to walk can use a tram service. To use the tram for visitors unable to walk, you'll need to call (512) 480-3049 to make a reservation.

The annual hot air Balloon Glow, a nocturnal display of lighted hot air balloons is part of the Trail of Lights; call the Austin Parks and Recreation Department at (512) 974-6700 for date and time.

McDonald Observatory located 6,800 feet above sea level atop Mt. Locke in the heart of the beautiful Davis Mountains of West Texas has some special events planned for this holiday season. On November 27th the Star Café will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner all day. All through November and December on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights there will be Star Parties and on the 13th and 14th of December there will be unique special viewing parties featuring sights of Saturn through the telescope.
