The drive into the city is usually about 45 minutes but can take much longer during rush hours.

Transportation between terminals

The free AirTrain, connects all three terminals with the rental car center, the long-term parking lots, the hotel shuttles and the train station. Riding the AirTrain within the airport is free.

Ground Transportation

One of the least expensive ways of going to Manhattan is by taking the AirTrain to the Liberty Airport Train Station then taking a New Jersey Transit Train to Pennsylvania Station in Midtown ($15). If you have a lot of luggage it may be a bit cumbersome.

The Olympia Express Bus - Newark Liberty Airport Express takes passengers to Grand Central Station or the Port Authority Terminal in Midtown Manhattan ($14). The buses run every 15 to 30 minutes and take about 45 minutes.

A shared ride to Manhattan costs about $13 - 17. A sedan service to Manhattan costs between $40-50. A six-passenger limousine rental from Newark to Manhattan will cost you roughly $130-140.

Warning: The price of a shared-ride van is the same if there is one rider or the van is full. Do not let a driver try and take an advantage of you by insisting you pay more if you are the only passenger.

The taxi dispatch line is located outside of the main terminals. Taxi fare from Newark to Manhattan is a flat fee ($40-55) plus tolls and tip.

Newark has many parking options. Short term is available in front of each of the terminals. Daily parking lots are P1 and P3 and the parking garage P4. Valet parking is offered in P4 but is very expensive. Economy is the cheapest but takes the most time since you must allow for the shuttle transportation.
