LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is located on Long Island in the borough of Queens about 8 miles (13 km) east of Manhattan. It is the smallest of the three New York airports but is very popular because it is centrally located.
LaGuardia is known for providing mostly domestic service. Although it can accommodate the customs and immigrations process from international flights the airport is too small to accommodate large numbers of passengers, therefore most international flights arrive at JFK or Newark airports.
Transportation between terminals
LaGuardia has four terminals: A, B, C, and D. Terminal B is called the Central Terminal Building (CTB) and is the largest and busiest terminal with four concourses: A, B, C, and D. Walkways and free shuttle busses connect the four terminals.
Ground Transportation
Because of LaGuardia's convenient location, there are decent ground transportation options to all five boroughs including several into Manhattan. Information is available in the baggage claim and arrival areas.
The least expensive transportation into Manhattan is via the local bus lines with transfer to the subway ($4 total). If you are toting a lot of luggage, this may not be the most convenient alternative. Several other bus lines connect passengers with the various locations throughout the boroughs and suburbs.
The New York Airport Service Express Busses are more convenient. They will take you to Grand Central Station, Pennsylvania Station or the Port Authority Terminal in Midtown Manhattan for $12.
Several shared ride van companies provide service into Manhattan for $15-20. A sedan service costs between $28-35. A six-passenger limousine rental from LaGuardia to Manhattan will cost you about $125.
Warning: The price of a shared-ride van is the same if there is one rider or the van is full. Do not let a driver try and take an advantage of you by insisting you pay more if you are the only passenger.
Taxis
The taxi dispatch stands and lines are located outside the baggage claim areas. Depending on where you are heading taxi fare to Manhattan costs between $17 and $30 plus tip and tolls.
Tip: Never accept transportation offers from non-uniformed solicitors inside or outside of the terminal. Official workers will be uniformed porters and airline employees with airport badges.
Car Rentals
Six car rental agencies serve LaGuardia. Their offices are located near the airport. Courtesy buses run continuously outside of the main terminal to the rental car offices.
Parking
LaGuardia has plenty of short-term parking scattered near the terminals buildings. Long-term parking is located between terminal B and C. A patch of metered parking is located at terminal A. It is best used for passenger pick up and drop off.
