    Massachusetts to New York City??

My mother, my friend and I will be taking a road trip from georgia to massachusetts to visit family and get a little sight seeing in also. My question is we will be staying in Uxbridge Massachusetts with family and we plan on taking a day trip to New York City. Does anyone know what kind of public transportation we can get into the city. None of us wants to drive so we want to take some kind of public transportation. Do we have to drive all the way into Boston just to get on Amtrek or can I find something closer to Uxbridge?? Thank you for all your help.

I think it would probably be quicker and more convenient for you to go to Providence, Rhode Island.  You can catch the AMTRAK train to New York City from there.  There is probably a bus that goes from Uxbridge to Providence, but I don't know anything about it.
