I went to Las Vegas last week for a short business trip. When I arrived in McCarran International airport, there were a lot of cowboys or imitation cowboys wandering around in their ten-gallon hats and cowboy boots. The National Rodeo Finals had just ended the day before, so all of the cowboys and pretend cowboys were leaving Las Vegas and heading home.

The weather was very nice. In the afternoon, the skies were blue and folks were walking around the Strip in short sleeve shirts. After dark, it got a bit cool, but a light jacket or windbreaker were sufficient.

The usual tourist crowds were absent. The business convention travelers were absent. Las Vegas was rather quiet. Many of the hotels were offering some real bargain rates. I stayed at the Alladin xxxx, and had a very spacious room with huge bath for less than $70 per night. There were other bargains available for less than $50 per night at some of the casinos and some of the motels.

If you want to visit Las Vegas when it is less crowded, December is a great time to go. You can get some great bargains on accommodations. You will not have to wait in long lines at the buffets or at the entertainment venues. It may be a bit cool for swimming in outdoor pools, but the weather is usually quite pleasant.
